I have this crazy notion, that every one of us is capable of more than we believe. All we have to do is stay focussed and motivated. We can get older and not only improve our health, but look better. Imagine this: Whatever age you are now, you can be stronger, look younger and frankly be happier five years from now.
I know it sounds too good to be true, but I'm proof. I started practicing when I was 32, pregnant, completely inflexible and bit out of shape. At 46, I'm stronger than I've ever been and unlike a lot of people my age, I don't seem to be falling apart. It's not good genes as I'm sometimes told, it's yoga. If you don't believe me, look around. Search yoga teachers who are older and have a steady yoga practice. It's not luck. There's magic in yoga. It captures you, physically shows you it's working and then goes deeper.
As you fall in love with yoga you will eventually find that your behavior and actions in life change because you want to practice the next day. Our food and even friend choices begin to shift. Our attitude towards family and even strangers improves. When the yoga practice gets under your skin, you can't help but get better and better every day.
The key to yoga is finding a teacher and type of practice that works for you. They are not all the same and everyone needs something different. Just like any relationship, you need to find the perfect fit. It should make you happy and bring out your best.
You will learn to confront your weaknesses both physically and mentally and celebrate your strengths and accomplishments. Find your version of yoga, stick to it and make it a life ritual.

SMALL GROUP YOGA CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:
Beginners Basics Series: This 4 class series is developed to slowly break down the basics. Fundamental yoga poses, yogic breathing and guided relaxing savasana will be included. Covered in this series are alignment, tools for building flexibility and strength and transitioning between poses.
This format at times may break down into a bit of a workshop where students can ask questions. There are no stupid questions! In fact, I encourage them. So many students go to classes and don't understand what a teacher means by vinyasa or are still unsure what a chatturaga really is. This is where you ask anything you have questions about. I want my students to learn, grow and feel confident in their practice.
Mixed Level is appropriate for all levels of students who have prior yoga experience. There are options for everyone. Arm balances and inversions are often introduced with alternatives for those who wish not to do them. The class is very friendly with lots of encouragement not only from me, but the students too!
Rise up! This is where we really explore getting a lot stronger. Arm balances and Inversions will be offered more heavily than my other classes. The pace will move a bit faster and I will be cueing the class while I am doing the poses. It will be a step up from the mixed level. We will be working hard and keeping it fun. This class is appropriate for someone with a solid yoga foundation who is open to working towards the arm balances and inversions.
